Character and Curriculum
Character Development
At Ambleside Stawi, we believe that education shapes the whole child—mind, heart, and habits. More than academics, true learning is about forming character and relationships that prepare children for life.
Character Development
Together with parents, we nurture growth in three key areas:
- Relationship to Self – Building habits of attention, imagination, order, responsibility, truthfulness, and thoughtful reasoning.
- Relationship to Others – Learning respect, healthy conflict resolution, teamwork, service, and leadership.
- Relationship to Knowledge – Developing curiosity, perseverance, comprehension, and the ability to engage deeply with ideas and communicate them clearly.
We weave these qualities into the daily life of the school, not teach them in isolation.

Our Curriculum
Ambleside Stawi offers a curriculum that is broad, rigorous, and internationally relevant. We offer a Cambridge education anchored in a philosophy that sees the child as a whole person—capable of forming rich relationships with ideas, nourished by a living curriculum, and naturally drawn to truth, knowledge, and wonder.
- Comprehensive – Students study core subjects (math, literacy, science, history, geography) alongside arts, music, and nature studies.
- Balanced – The program alternates between developing skills (reading, writing, problem-solving) and mastering content knowledge.
- High-Quality Resources – We center learning on ‘living books’ and rich materials by the best authors, ensuring depth rather than diluted content.
- Engaging & Practical – Lessons connect to real life through discussion, projects, and observation, ensuring students don’t just memorize but understand and apply knowledge.
This approach prepares children not only for exams but also for thoughtful, lifelong learning.

Kindergarten (Ages 3–6)
At Ambleside Stawi, we offer a curriculum that balances play-based discovery in the early years with a rigorous academic pathway in later years, ensuring children grow in confidence, character, and capability.
Inspired by Froebel
- Rooted in the principles of Friedrich Froebel, the father of Kindergarten.
- Emphasis on play as purposeful learning—through songs, movement, storytelling, and creative hands-on activities.
- Development of foundational habits: attention, imagination, neatness, order, and joy in discovery.
- A nurturing environment where children learn through nature, play, and meaningful relationships.

Our Primary Years (Year 1–8)
IGCSE Pathway Rooted in a Charlotte Mason approach
- Broad, rich curriculum based on living books, nature study, and hands-on experiences.
- Children learn to narrate, reflect, and engage deeply with knowledge instead of rote memorization.
- Strong focus on character development and habits of responsibility, truthfulness, and respect.
- A gradual shift into the Cambridge curriculum, while retaining Ambleside’s emphasis on curiosity, reflection, and independent thought.
- Rigorous preparation for IGCSE exams (Year 11) and eventually A-Level studies (Year 12–13).
- We equip students not only with academic mastery but also with critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills—preparing them for global opportunities.
Ambleside Portrait of a Graduate
The Standards of an Ambleside Education are Different on Purpose
Our primary concern is the kind of person each child is becoming.
When we look at a child, we see a whole person, made in the image of God. They have endless potential, an innate desire to know, and a curiosity that propels learning for a lifetime.
Because we are constantly growing and changing as individuals, there is never an “end product” as the goal of an Ambleside education. Rather, we are working to develop specific, enduring qualities in our students that provide a foundation for a life well-lived.
Thinking, open-minded individuals of godly character.
Demonstrating an ability to form healthy relationships.
Maturing in the art of living well.
Emulating the biblical example of leadership modelled by Jesus Christ.
Pursuing optimal ways of relating to God, self, others, ideas, creation, work, and leisure
Growing knowledge of and love for Jesus Christ.
Showing a humble, proactive servant love of all persons.
Showing kindness and respect toward others.
Acting with a compassionate heart for weakness.
Committing to reaching their God-given potential in academics, ministry, and vocation.
Working with strong habits of excellence.
Demonstrating self-mastery.
Growing in a rich intellectual life filled with inspirational ideas.
Ambleside does not seek to be an elite prep school but rather to provide a “living education” to children of varying backgrounds and abilities, where each child is guided and empowered to author a full and free life, one rich in relationship to God, self, others, ideas, and all of creation.
Thus, our primary concern is the kind of student each child is becoming, not the mastery of particular data or technique, for we are confident that the student who masters the art of learning will attain his full potential for mastering data and technique.
Students who master the art of relating well to God, self, others, ideas, and creation will attain the fullness of life for which they were created.
